Feeling drained and “brain-dead” by the end of the day?

November 7, 2020 By Liz

Feeling drained and “brain-dead” by the end of the day?

You may have made too many decisions!

Have you ever spent a day making various decisions at home and at work, then gone out to dinner and been unable to choose what you want to eat from the menu? Or you’ve de-cluttered your closet, making piles of keep/donate/trash until suddenly you cannot decide what to do with that alma mater sweatshirt? Or… you’ve prepared a week of meal plans, complete with your COVID-era grocery list, remembered your mask, gloves, and hand sanitizer, and then found yourself in the grocery store staring at the lettuce with no idea which one to choose?

Most likely, by the time you arrived at that final sweatshirt, the restaurant, or the produce aisle, decision fatigue had set in. [Read more…]

Here’s to enjoying Hallowe’en treats without gaining weight!

October 3, 2020 By Liz

It’s that time of year. It’s inevitable. Few people I know can resist having Hallowe’en treats in the house in October. Next to Valentine’s Day, more candy is sold and consumed than any other time of the year.

All those little delectable goodies… so tempting…

What if you could enjoy the Hallowe’en treats you love without gaining weight? Well, you can!

First thing to do is RELAX!!! Keep reading to find out how many treats you would have to eat AT ONE SITTING in order to gain a pound of body fat. I don’t know about you, but the mere thought of having to eat 58 chocolate bars or 489 pieces of candy corn makes me more than a little queasy!!!

★ To gain one pound of fat… you’d have to eat 58 Hallowe’en chocolate bars in one sitting. ★

It takes eating 3500 calories of EXTRA food – food your body doesn’t need – to gain one pound of body fat.

Second, give yourself permission to eat one or two of your favorite Hallowe’en treats every day until Hallowe’en AND—this is IMPORTANT—every day after Hallowe’en (until you no longer feel like it). If you do this, you will not gain weight from those Hallowe’en treats.

Intermittent Fasting… What’s the big deal… and what is it anyway?

September 5, 2020 By Liz

I am always amused when the “latest and greatest” is actually not so “latest.” Or when things are given fancy-schmancy names, leading us to believe that they are in some way “special” or “different” or… TRENDY! Let’s talk about Intermittent Fasting!
Now “fasting,” in plain ole’ English, means that you are not eating. “Intermittent” means at irregular intervals or not continuous or steady. Unless you are someone who eats 24/7, you are already intermittent fasting! Unless you are someone who is doing a regimen of drinking only water for days on end, you are already intermittent fasting. So, let’s ditch this ridiculous misnomer and talk about something useful… like how to fuel your body in a way that leaves you energized! In a way that avoids the bloating, the cravings, the sleepiness, and lack of energy.

But first, an important question. What is YOUR main meal?

If you are like most Americans, it’s dinner… which has come to mean the evening meal. And you usually have it after 6 PM, right? Well, it wasn’t always like that. For centuries, “dinner” (the heavier main meal) was eaten mid-day… between 11 and 3. After 6 PM, we ate “supper”… from the French word “souper.” If you guessed that the later meal was soup, you’d be right!

For a very long time, this was a GREAT system! Why? Because it worked better with our bodies’ natural rhythms. Ayurvedic tradition with its six cycles explains this very well. And by the way, it still IS a great system… and it looks suspiciously like Intermittent Fasting. HA!

The Cravings Killer…it’s Not What You Think

The Cravings Killer…it’s Not What You Think

“To love and be loved is to feel the sun from both sides.”  – David Viscott

“Catch sunbeams in a mirror! A reflection of a sunbeam can melt an iceberg.” – Lara Biyuts

“Here comes the sun, and I say it’s all right” – George Harrison (The Beatles)

In these challenging days of COVID and being cooped up, getting enough sunlight is more important than ever… especially if you struggle with cravings!

For centuries, the sun has represented power, life force, vitality, and illumination.

What You Don’t Know About Water

July 4, 2020 By Liz

What You Don’t Know About Water

(Hint: Add some lemon!)

If you follow me, you consider yourself pretty savvy when it comes to your health. You exercise regularly, catch a yoga class, eat your veggies… maybe even meditate. But did you know that there is one ultra-simple thing that you can add to your morning routine that checks a ton of those health benefit boxes? Lemon water. That’s right, lemon water. And, as far as routines go, this one’s a snap! Slice a lemon, toss it into a tall glass (along with some sliced cucumber if you like), and top it off with lukewarm (not warm, not cold) water. To get the most bang for your buck, it’s best to drink it first thing in the morning, about 15 minutes before you eat breakfast. If you are one of those folks who have gone back to the office… mornings are hectic! No worries. Simply transfer your lemon water into a water bottle, toss it in your bag and drink up while you’re en route to work. Intrigued to learn more?
